<<<Upwork Top Secret>>>
No, it’s NOT OK! Why?
There’s more than one reason:
Reason #1
Just to be perfectly clear. It’s OK to REMIND a client to give you a review, after you delivered your work and got paid, but it’s not OK to ASK. Especially when it comes to five-star reviews.
This way, you’re sending the wrong message. With this request, you’re already qualifying your work as an excellent one which deserves a five-star review. Well, that’s a client’s prerogative.
If I have to ask a five-star then it means that I don’t deserve it. My reviews are the most important thing for me. All of them are authentic and well deserved. And, not all of them are five-star reviews. To be totally honest about it, I would be a bit suspicious about a freelancer who has the perfect score of 5.0 and only five-star reviews.
Reason #2
You should be aware that you request for a five-star review is something a client may use against you. Your client can inform Upwork support and the next thing you know, you’re in trouble because of your request, which can be qualified as unethical and a violation of Upwork’s Terms of Service.
Conclusion:
As a fellow freelancer, I understand that every single review matters, especially if it’s a five-star review. Without a five-star reputation, your chances of success are very slim.
So, don’t ask, but rather wait for your five-star feedback on Upwork. What good is it if you have to ask for it? Right?
